My family is full of terrific artists. My husband is an industrial designer. My mom has been painting for over 40 years. But me? I’ll just stick with writing.
However, I love to create. Pinterest is full of amazing inspiration to help those who lack art skill create something frame-worthy. When my feed became populated with doodle tutorials, I knew I was on to something. I see many students doodle on papers and folders throughout the day. I thought it would be fun to channel their doodles into something that could be used as a gift for the holidays.
The Doodle Card Maker Workshop was a hit! Before the workshop, I printed “Merry Christmas” on cardstock and cut the paper into 5×7 pieces. I could have had the students write this themselves, but I didn’t want potential handwriting problems to discourage them. Students started by swiping a swatch of watercolor paint on the cardstock. While the paint dried, we practiced our doodles on some scrap paper using fine line markers by Crayola, Sargent, and Sharpie. Christmas trees can be doodled in a number of ways. Click here to see a few. When ready, they transferred their doodles to the cardstock. Easy!
I showed the students how to search for “bullet journal Christmas” to view other festive images that could be doodled. I also showed them examples of birthday doodles and school doodles, providing suggestions such as birthday cards, thank you notes, etc. I can’t wait to see how they spread joy to others with their creativity!
