After almost 2 years of learning during a pandemic, our students are getting really good at using Google Apps for Education. They have become experts at adding images, text boxes, shapes, and they can change fonts, colors, and backgrounds with ease. It was time to introduce a new way of using Google Slides: stop motion animation!

I knew that it could be done, but as often is the case, I didn’t know how to do it. I highly recommend using a resource such as Snowman STEM Activity: Stop Motion Animation by Momgineer. Creating awesome videos in a 40 minute period could not have been easier.

Simply stated, students choose a backdrop and create a simple story, such as a snowman having a winter adventure. Students place provided clipart image(s) onto the background and duplicate the slide. The images are moved by resizing and/or nudging them on the slide. The slide is duplicated again. Momgineer provides more detail in the resource, but just know that in the end, it is not unsual for students to have created 75+ slides in a 40 minute class period.

The results were adorable!
